Thick Body Type Crochet Doll Tutorial and Pattern

My newest tutorial, and pattern, is out today! This time I made an amigurumi style doll with a realistically shaped, thicker body type. This pattern is so easy to customize to any size doll! This design is similar to my “Realistic Body Doll” pattern I made several years ago, which has a thinner body type. You can find Part 1 of the tutorial at the bottom of the page, or if you like you can find the pattern in my Ravelry store. Buy it now!
I used Aran weight yarn. Worsted weight may be used but you may want to use a smaller hook (like a size B) to maintain the proper tension. I used much less than a skein of Red Heart brand yarn in “Cafe Latte” for my doll, but if you’re making a much larger doll or using a smaller skein, you may need more yarn. You can use pretty much any color in any aran or worsted weight yarn. I used “Cafe Latte” for the doll in the tutorial, and the other doll pictured was made using “Warm Brown”.

I also used a yarn needle and some extra yarn to shape the body. Tutorial for this is coming soon! You can see the difference in the body shape between the 2 dolls pictured; the “Warm Brown” doll (the lighter shade) has been shaped with sewing, and the “Cafe Latte” doll (the darker shade) hasn’t been shaped yet.

I used a wire skeleton made of craft wire to give my doll structure, and an ability to stay in more interesting poses. You can forgo the skeleton if you wish, but if you make the doll’s neck too small without some kind of reinforcement, the head will probably droop, so just add a bit of a wire or a pipe cleaner to the neck.

Find Part 1 of the free video tutorial on my youtube channel, or if you want to see the rest of the series now, Part 2 is already available to my patrons on Patreon. (Also, the Patreon version has limited ads, and no music soundtrack, if that's something you're interested in). Crochet Mini Mushroom Charms Tutorial

Mario inspired mini mushroom charms! These are super cute and quick to make, and its a great use for scrap yarn. Instructions for both styles (the one with spots and the one with the skull) given in pattern!

I’ve also made a video tutorial that you can find at the bottom of the page, or on youtube here: https://youtu.be/s6E-c7ByPF0
You can also find the written pattern for this project in my Ravelry store! Buy it now!

I used Red Heart worsted weight yarns in Red, Aran and White to make the red mushroom, and switched out the red for Amethyst to make the purple one, and Spring Green for the green one.

To create these charms, you’ll actually need to use crochet thread weight yarn instead. I kind of prefer to use the worsted weight yarn, though, because of the color variety. I split the Red Heart yarn in half to make crochet thread weight yarn out of worsted weight yarn. You can see how I did this in the video tutorial, but if you want to make your life easier you can skip this step and just use crochet thread, or you could also use embroidery floss.

I also used some black thread to embroider on the eyes, and a metal clasp to turn my mushrooms into charms. You could also use an earring hook, or a jump ring, or a keychain for these charms.

Here's the free video tutorial on my youtube channel:

Yoshi Amigurumi Doll Pattern and Free Video Tutorial

Amigurumi Yoshi doll inspired by the Mario games. I tried to make this doll as accurate to the way the character looks in the games as possible, and I think I did a pretty good job. You can find the pattern on Ravelry here: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/yoshi-amigurumi-7
Part 1 of the free video tutorial is at the bottom of this page. Next parts of the video coming soon!
I used Spring Green and White from Red Heart Super Saver for the classic Yoshi color, but of course you can be really creative with this pattern and make yours any color you like. I also made one in Bubblegum pink, and I’m working on one in Royal Blue. I used a size E hook and aran weight yarn, you might be able to use a smaller hook and a thinner yarn, like a light worsted weight and a size B hook, to make an even smaller, cuter doll.
I also used craft wire to make my doll pose-able. You can see from the pictures that this doll holds it’s poses very well. If you’re planning on making this doll for a baby or small child, don’t use any wire in your doll.

Crochet Centaur Doll + Free Video Tutorial

Check out my crochet amigurumi style centaur doll! The written pattern is available in my Ravelry store here: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/realistic-centaur-doll
Buy it now!
You can also find the free video tutorial at the bottom of the page.

This is a bit of an intermediate to advanced level design. It's fully customizable, and you can find a bunch of hair tutorials for dolls on my channel, to customize your centaur doll even more.

For the doll above, I used “Buff” (Red Heart Super Saver) for the doll upper body, “Aran” (Red Heart Super Saver) for the horse body, “Charcoal” (Red Heart Super Saver) to make the hooves, and a combination of “Charcoal” and “Black” (Red Heart Super Saver) to make the tail and hair.

For the doll below, I used “Heather”(Loops & Threads) for the body, “Rust” (Vanna’s Choice) and “White” (Red Heart Super Saver) for the horse body, “Black” (Red Heart Super Saver) for the hooves and a combination of “Rust”, and “Toast” (Red Heart Soft) for the tail and hair. You can use any color to customize your doll.

You can find the free video tutorial, and other tutorials, on my youtube channel at https://youtube.com/c/faerierings

To make the doll upper body of the centaur, I used the technique in my realistic amigurumi doll tutorial, which you can see here:

Crochet Horse Doll Pattern + Free Video Tutorial

Check out my crochet amigurumi style horse doll! The written pattern is available in my Ravelry store here: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/realistic-horse-doll
Buy it now!

This is a bit of an intermediate to advanced level design, I'd say. It's easy to customize the size,  shape or color of the horse to your preferences.

Amigurumi generally uses very little yarn, and I used much less than a full skein. I used “Aran” from Red Heart Super Saver for the body, “Charcoal” to make the hooves, and a combination of “Charcoal” and “Black” to make the mane and tail.

You can find the free video tutorial at the bottom of this page, or you could check out my youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/faerierings to see more of my free tutorials!

Crochet Princess Doll Dress Pattern and Video Tutorial

Crochet princess dress with puffed sleeves and overskirt. Pattern includes instructions for my Realistic Body Amigurumi doll, my Basic amigurumi doll, and a Barbie style doll size. This pattern is really easy to customize to any size doll. Find the free video tutorial at the bottom of the page!

This pattern is similar to my Fitted Doll Shirt pattern and my Basic Doll Circle Skirt pattern, but with a few extra steps, plus the addition of the puffed sleeves and the overskirt.

You could make just about any style of princess dress with this technique by changing out the colors of any part of the dress, using different styles of sleeves, or different fullness of skirts. I decided to make a Princess Peach dress for my doll. Let me know what princess dress I should make next!

Realistic Muscular Crochet Doll Pattern/Video Tutorial

Realistic muscular crochet doll pattern. A free video tutorial is available on my Youtube channel at https://youtube.com/c/faerierings or you can find the video at the bottom of the page.
If you want a written pattern, you can find one in my Ravelry store. Buy it now!
Specific instructions given for a 14-inch tall doll, but the pattern is easy to customize to any size doll. Pattern is a little advanced. If you’re familiar with making amigurumi dolls, this pattern will be fairly simple. But for a beginner it can be complex.
Use Aran weight yarn. Worsted weight may be used but you may want to use a smaller hook (like a size B) to maintain the proper tension
I used much less than a skein of Red Heart brand yarn in “Cafe Latte” for my doll, but if you’re making a much larger doll or using a smaller skein, you may need more yarn.

Crochet Bunny Ears Pattern and Free Tutorial!

Crochet costume bunny ears pattern. I made a pair of large, wearable ears, but you can use this technique to make a pair of ears in any size. You can find this pattern in my Ravelry store! Buy it now! Or check out the free video tutorial at the bottom of the page.

I used Loops & Threads Impeccable in Soft Pink for the inner ear, and Red Heart Super Saver in White for the outer ear. But you can use any color you like. After making the ears, they can be either worn with pins in the hair, which is what I did for the pictures shown, or they can be sewn onto another project.
To pin in my hair, I used one barrette each at the back of the ear, and two bobby pins at each side of the ear. I just stuck the pins straight through the holes in the stitches. Also, my hair is really short, so I’m sure it’d be really easy to do if you have longer hair.

Or you could sew the ears to a beanie, hoodie or cowl, or to a doll.

I also used craft wire to make a wire skeleton for the ears, so they can stand straight up.

Doll Hoodie Sweater Pattern and Free Video Tutorial

Sweater with optional hood or collar and sleeves.
Buy it now!
Made to fit my basic amigurumi doll pattern, or my realistic body amigurumi doll pattern, but easy to customize to any size doll. Worked in rows.
I used worsted weight yarn and a size E hook to make my project, but if you want to make a lighter sweater, you could use a thinner yarn. You might need to use a larger hook, or add more rows, to make up for the size difference. I used a size G hook.
I used scrap yarn for my project, since the doll I was making the sweater for was so small. If you’re making your coat for a much larger doll, you may need more yarn.
The yarns I used for the dolls pictured, from left to right: Caron Simply Soft “Spring Brook”; Red Heart Soft “Toast” and Caron Simply Soft “Chocolate” with Lion Homespun “Hepplewhite” collar; Loops & Threads Woolike “Rose”; Caron Simply Soft “Rose”

Basic Crochet Pants for Dolls - Video + Pattern

New pattern available in my Ravelry store!
Basic crochet doll pants pattern made to fit my basic amigurumi doll pattern, or my realistic body amigurumi doll pattern, but easy to customize to any size doll.
Buy it now!

You can watch the free video tutorial on my Youtube channel at https://youtube.com/c/faerierings,
Or look at the bottom of this page.
The first few rows are worked in rows, then the rest is worked in the round, if making for a doll with large hips, to make it easier to get the pants on the doll.
For best results, use light weight yarn. This is so that less bulk is added to the doll.
I used scrap yarn for my project, since the dolls I was making the pants for are so small. If you’re making your pants for a much larger doll, you may need more yarn.

For best results, use light weight yarn. This is so that less bulk is added to the doll.
I used scrap yarn for my project, since the doll I was making the shirt for was so small. If you’re making your shirt for a much larger doll, you may need more yarn.

How to Crochet Slipper Boots Pattern/Video Tutorial

Simple slipper boots with twisted cables running up the sides of the ankle.
Pattern is available in my Ravelry store for $3.50
Buy Now

Sizing is fully customize-able, but specific sizing info is given for US standard women's sizes. Make these boots as tall or as short as you like.

You can customize the size of these boots pretty easily, either by using a store-bought slipper as the base (I've also seen people use flip-flops as the bottoms of their slippers), or you can make your own slipper bottoms in one of three provided sizes: narrow, regular, and wide.
I used 2 skeins of Loops and Threads Charisma for my slipper boots, but if you made them shorter you might only need 1 skein. You'll also need some worsted or aran weight yarn if you're using a store-bought slipper, to sew a foundation row around the slipper bottom and to create loops for your bulky weight yarn. If you're doing that, you'll also need something sharp, like a sharp yarn needle, to poke holes around the base of your slipper.
